Mud Missive

Mud Missive (2009) is an essayistic video documentary focusing on a group of potters who work on the banks of the White Nile in Khartoum, Sudan. Directed, shot and edited by Fatin Abbas, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard, the film weaves together visual reflections on the pottery process with reflections on Sudanese nationhood, politics and diasporic identity. The film has been screened both at national and international film festivals, premiering in 2009 as part of the "Sensory Ethnography" student screenings at the Harvard Film Archive and as part of the "This is Africa" program at the 52nd Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film in Leipzig, Germany.
